Congratulations to the 2018 EBD Award winners!

  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Accomplished Faculty Award: Dr. Richard Niederman, New York University College of Dentistry
  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Mid-Career Faculty Award: Dr. Vineet Dhar, University of Maryland School of Dentistry
  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Practice Award: Dr. Elliot Abt of Skokie, IL

Winners will receive their awards at a reception during ADA 2018 in Honolulu. The reception will be held October 18 from 3 to 4 PM at the Ala Wai Terrace of the Hawaii Convention Center.

The American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) have established two faculty awards and one practice award for evidence-based dentistry (EBD). The goal of these awards is to acknowledge currently practicing dental educators and clinicians who have made significant contributions to implement and advance EBD. Dental school faculty who are members of the ADA or AADR and practitioners who are members of the ADA are eligible to apply.

Award recipients must demonstrate leadership in implementing EBD in research, practice, or education and a contribution to the scientific knowledge base of EBD. Those who meet these criteria are encouraged to apply for one of the three awards listed below.

  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Accomplished Faculty Award
  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Mid-Career Faculty Award
  • Evidence-Based Dentistry Practice Award

Additional past recipients

  • 2016: Combined EBD Faculty Award presented to Drs. Teresa Marshall and Cheryl Straub-Morarend, University of Iowa College of Dentistry
  • 2014: Inaugural Evidence-Based Dentistry Award presented to Dr. Robert Weyant, University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine

Award details

Winners of the EBD Awards are selected by a committee composed of members of the ADA’s Council on Scientific Affairs EBD Subcommittee, representation from AADR, and a non-voting participant from Colgate. Winners of the 2018 awards receive a commemorative plaque, a $1,000 honorarium, and airfare and lodging to receive their award at ADA 2018 in Honolulu on October 18. This is a one-time award; winners are ineligible to apply again.

The ADA and AADR established the Evidence-Based Dentistry Faculty & Practice Awards to acknowledge currently practicing dental educators and clinicians who have made significant contributions to implement and advance EBD in research, practice, or education. Recipients must also have contributed to the scientific knowledge base of EBD.

The Evidence-Based Dentistry Faculty & Practice Awards are supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Colgate.
